Being a Happy Customer after the Sale
Driving home a new car can be exciting. Whether the car is brand new, complete with new car smell, or is just new to you, it's fun to drive home a vehicle that you like. However, if you don't buy the right car, the love for your new car can wear out long before you actually pay off your loan. If you want to be happy with your car long before you drive it off the lot, you should take some time before you buy your car to figure out exactly what kind of car you need.
How Big?
One of the most important things to think about when you decide on what kind of car you want is to decide how big the car you want should be. How many passengers will you need to carry? Do you need to haul wood, camping equipment, or sports equipment on a regular basis? Do you have to carry around work tools or haul a trailer? If you only need the services of a truck once a year, it might be less expensive to rent one. If you are regularly going to be carrying around five kids and their hockey equipment, you will probably need a larger vehicle.
Think of Additional Costs
If you are on a budget, you want to find a car that fits. After you narrow down your car choices, call your insurance company and ask for quotes. You might discover that one of your favorite cars costs a lot to insure. Compare the gas mileage of the different cars that you are interested in. Is there one car that performs poorly? You might also want to check out information about the reliability of the cars that you are interested in. Some cars may be prone to getting expensive mechanical problems right when it comes out of warrantee. Find out what the resale value of the cars you like are. Not all cars hold their value as well.
Think of the Future
Before you make your car purchase, think about your future. You will probably own your car for a long time. If you are planning on having children in the near future, you don't want to purchase a car that is too small to fit a car seat into. Similarly, if you are getting ready to retire and plan on driving around the country while hauling a motor home several months out of the year, you probably don't want to buy a sports car. Try to buy a car that will meet your needs for as long as you plan to own it.
Take a Test Drive
Be sure to test drive the cars that you are thinking about. You might discover that you don't like the way that one car handles, or that the car is not roomy enough for your family. Even the placement of (or lack of) drink holders in your car could significantly impact your enjoyment of your car. Make sure that you can fit your entire family in the car comfortably. You will be driving your car for a long time, you want to make sure that it will suit you for years to come.
